We’re staging a yard sale in partnership with Military Connections, a non-profit organization that provides care packages, supplies and equipment to servicemen and women who are stationed abroad.  All proceeds will benefit our troops.

The sale will be held at Anderson Interiors offices at 12 Plum Street, Verona on Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 8 a.m to 2 p.m.

You can help, too!  If you’d like to donate to the sale, we are accepting gently used items Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Under the direction of Summer Tissue, Military Connections supports all branches of the U.S. Military. Servicemen and women are provided with food and healthcare items such as soups and powdered drink mixes, fruit snacks, pretzels, cookies, chewing gum, shampoo, razors, body wash,  hand sanitizer, and insect spray. They also receive basic supplies, including flashlights, pillows, duct tape, and white socks.

Military Connections never loses sight of the sacrifices our troops make for their country and strives to make life abroad more comfortable. AT&T phone cards, DVDs and CDs, business envelopes, pocket-sized notebooks, magazines and puzzle books are also dispatched in an attempt to brighten their days. A complete list of items that the organization provides can be found on their web site.

If you’d like to participate in the organization’s efforts or have questions about the yard sale, please contact Summer.

Anderson Interiors is pleased to announce that we’ve been awarded certification as a Women Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Enterprise Council PA-DE-NJ Certification Committee, a regional certifying partner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).  Anderson Interiors has been a certified Women Business Enterprise since 2005.

To obtain WBENC certification a business must submit to a detailed and exacting process that confirms it is at least 51% owned and managed by one or more women who demonstrate industry expertise.  A woman must also hold the highest ranking office.  The process includes an in-depth analysis of the business and its management as well as a comprehensive site visit.

WBENC certification is a widely recognized and respected designation and Anderson Interiors is excited to take its place among other industry leaders.

The Storehouse for Teachers

March 17, 2011

If teachers were inclined to award gold stars to adults, no doubt the folks at The Storehouse for Teachers would be among the first recipients.

The Storehouse for Teachers is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing classroom supplies to teachers in Pennsylvania. They ultimately hope to serve over 210 schools within a six county area of the state. Their goal is to ensure that children in classrooms across the region have the same access to tools, resources, and materials by maintaining a store where teachers can shop for supplies at no charge.

They’ve partnered with a number of corporate sponsors and will also solicit volunteers to join them.

We were pleased to participate in the initiative by donating workstations for the organization’s office space on Corliss Street in Pittsburgh’s West End.
