International Women’s Day 2012

March 8, 2012

Today is International Women’s Day. The United Nation’s theme for this year’s celebration is “Empower Women — End Hunger and Poverty.”  Each year millions of women world-wide mark this day with special events that showcase initiatives dedicated to the empowerment of women and the place they hold in society.

In addition, the International Red Cross is hoping to use the occasion this year to shift the focus to helping the mothers, wives, and siblings of those who have gone missing in armed conflict. Many of these women are overwhelmed with economic and practical considerations as well as the emotional and psychological impact.

As a certified Women Business Enterprise, we applaud the advances women have made in business and in all walks of life and we welcome the opportunity to recognize, applaud, and participate in the pursuit of excellence.

Each year on March 8th, millions around the world observe International Women’s Day.  Events marking the celebration are staged throughout the month of March, noting the achievements of women everywhere. This year in the U.S. over 200 events are scheduled nationwide.  The U.S. also designates March as Women’s History Month.

Historically, International Women’s Day was dedicated to bringing attention to negatives but in recent years that has shifted, focusing instead on achievement, promise, and possibility.

As a certified Women Business Enterprise, we salute the advances women have made in business and we welcome the opportunity to recognize, applaud, and participate in the pursuit of excellence.
